The old saying "it was one of those games" couldnīt be further from the truth for this game as Bala played well and the result didnīt reflect the true performance of the visitors.
Bala started strongly as Gethin, Jake and Ifan bossed the midfield and created the platform for Rhys, Andrew and Tom Jones to attack at will at the Newtownīs defence.
The link up play between the front three was very effective and especially with Ifan surging forwards from midfield it created problems for the home team, however, they failed to create any clear cut chances, thus resulting in half chances and wasted.
Bala managed to stretch the home teamīs defence several times and Tom has a glorious chance to score but it was saved by the advancing keeper, following great play by Andrew and Ifan.
Newtown did cause the odd panic in the visitorīs box but the efforts were easily dealt by the stand-in keeper Rob Dascalu.
Despite some great moves and with several last ditch tackles the score line was 0-0 at halftime.
With Bala playing with the wind they were confidence of scoring a few goals and despite continuing to play some neat football the final ball or shot was not so accurate or effective.
Newtown went ahead with a goal against the run of play woth two Bala defenders failing to put in a strong tackle, thus allowing the no10 to progress and score under Rob.
As usual the response was good and Bala surged forwards looking for the equalizer; Harri nearly scored his first goal for the club with a free header from a superb Andre corner, Rhys tremendous free kick nearly went in and Rhys once again nearly scored following probably the mobe of the match, between Gethin, Harri, Andrew and Rhys himself but his effort was comfortably saved.
Newtown doubled their lead as their no10 pounced on a weak pass by a Bala defender and he surged forward to cooly finish under Rob.
In the final 10 minutes Bala were terrific, playing with a high tempo and really pushing with Harri, in particular, brilliant with his positive runs, however, Balaīs efforts were either sliced wide or blasted over. To add insult to injury, Newtown scored their 3rd goal as they broke away and their lively no10 completed his hat-trick.
Bala can be proud of themselves today, despite a cruel score line, they played well but lady luck wasnīt on our side today. If they continue to play with the same determination, effective link up play and attitide then we should have a strong finish to the season. The man of the match today goes to Harri who was so promising in the second half, with Ifan and Andrew also impressing.
