On their travels to a tough Queensway venue, Bala Res came away with a narrow 2-3 win to keep them in contention with the top teams in the Reserve League.
From the kick off, Bala put their hosts on the back foot with early pressure, and created several openings in the first few minutes.
They took the lead on 5 mins when Gethin Edwards finished clinically, and Bala continued to enjoy good possession, with Gwydion and George looking a constant threat down the flanks, always troubling the home defence.
Iwan Roberts doubled Bala’s advantage on 20 mins when he thumped an effort on the turn from distance which left the home keeper no chance.
It could have been 3 shortly after when a Dan Lloyd cross to the far post was met by Gwydion, who couldn’t quite get his header on target.
Bala looked comfortable in the early stages, with Ilan Hughes and Dyfan Jones winning the mid field battle.
As the half progressed, Venture started to threaten more, and Bala seemed to loose composure as their passing failed to find their team mates.
With more possession, the home side started to test Dylan Jones in goal, and their efforts were rewarded before the break when a corner wasn’t cleared and Venture scored from within the six yard box, taking the teams into the break closer than the level of play would have suggested.
The second have started in a more competitive fashion than the first, both teams wanting to take the initiative.
The defensive partnership of Gwynant Rowlands and Owain Thirsk was called upon more, as Venture looked to bring the game level.
With the home side driving forward, John Evans and Gwydion were able to combine well down the right and it was this combination that resulted in Bala extending their lead, when Dyfan Jones fed an early the ball wide, both wide men combined well before delivering a cross for Iwan Roberts to net his second of the match.
Where as Bala should have driven on from their 2 goal cushion, they failed to dominate the game, and Venture made for an awkward last 10 mins when they brought the game back to 2-3. With mistakes creeping into the visitors game, Venture failed to capitalise, and Bala managed to hold on to a narrow win, and should be pleased to come away from a difficult venue with all 3 points.
