Bala Tn U16's 3, Cefn Druids U16's 2

Written by Academy on Tue 11th October 11, 13:31

After a narrow defeat to Airbus the previous Sunday

The lads were eager to put up a good performance against a Druids team consisting of mostly year 11 pupils, due to some players being unavailable through injury.

The team had to be juggled with some of the lads playing in unfamiliar positions, notably Ryan Jones playing his first game at centre back.

For the first 25 minutes Bala were just edging the best of the play but neither team created too much in the way of clear cut chances.

Bala left back Joe Hughes went on a run up the pitch and came close with a powerfully hit shot which went just over the bar.

Shortly after this, Cefn won a throw in, the throw came through a crowd of players and was put away by Cefns striker.

Just before the break Cefn started to push for a second goal and were only denied by a good stop from keeper Jack Cox and a superb goal line clearance by Matty Evans.

1-0 at half time.

Right from the whistle the lads seemed to step up a gear and started to play some nice passing football.

About 10 minutes in, a nice move down the right wing between Cai Roberts and Luke Humphreys, ended with Luke controlling the ball on the edge of the 18 yard box and hitting the ball across the goal into the bottom corner.

1-1 and the lads confidence was lifted and they began to boss the game.

The second goal again came from some nice inter play, Connor Lloyd playing Luke in, who finished with a nice chip over the keepers head.

Cefn pressed and had a shot saved well by 2nd half keeper Dan Jones.

With Bala playing well it was a surprise when Cefn grabbed themselves an equalizer with an effort which went in just under Dans crossbar.

2-2 and it would have been easy for the lads heads to have dropped at this point but to their credit they picked themselves up and went for the win.

Will Hughes went close with a great overhead kick, narrowly missing the target.

The winning goal came from a bit of scrappy play ending with Luke putting the ball into the net passed a defender on the goal line.

The last minutes of the game seemed to take an age, the ref blew for full time and a first win of the season for Bala.
