The sizeable crowd were treated to a 9 goal thriller today at Maes Tegid, which involved some great goals but also some poor defending!

Bala started very well by taking the game to Druids and created some good chances with Gethin and Stephen involved in most of them! Stephen did very well to create space for himself by winning the ball back in the corner, beating 2 defenders and shooting just wide.

The first goal came as Gethin surged forwards and took a shot which hit a defender, before rebounding back into his path and he unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner – his 1st for the Academy!

It was 2-0 within minutes as Stephen was released down the left by Mathew and he beat his marker before shooting from the edge of the box that looped over the keeper and into the far corner. That goal made Bala relax a bit too much as they allowed Druids back into game, with the defence becoming very complacent, the left winger had too much time to cross the ball which looped over Cai in the goal.

Bala were still a threat going forwards and managed to extend their lead with Jaime playing Gethin in on goal and he squared the ball across the goal for Delwyn to tap it in.

Back came Druids and again it was some poor defending that allowed the two striker to play a neat one-two before slotting the ball pass the advancing Cai.

After a hefty half time team talk, Bala soon improved on their 1st half performance and got off to the perfect start as Rhys was played in down the right wing by a good pass by Gethin, and his cross-cum-shot went over the keeper and into the far corner (the 3rd one in the game!).

Finally Bala were starting to play the football the manager know they can play, with the hosts creating chances from all angles; Mathew had a fierce shot from outside the box, Jaime narrowly blasted the ball over from 6 yards, the visiting keeper pulled off a great save from a goal-bound shot from Tom Jones and Rob was unlucky with his free kick.

Jaime made it 5-2 to Bala with an excellent shot from outside the box that fizzed passed the keeper.

Druids did score another goal with their lively left winger getting passed 3 Bala players, as they dived in to challenge him, before having a shot at goal that Cai was equal to it but he could only parry it at the feet of the striker who bundled the ball passed Isaac and Cai on the goal line.

Bala’s response was good as they continued to play some attracting football and were rewarded with the last goal in the game; Gethin once again played a great through ball to the lively Tom who kept his composure and finished well to make it 6-3.

Certainly a pleasing second half performance but Bala will know that they need to play better against a strong Bangor team for next week’s game. The man of the match today goes to Gethin Evans who was instrumental in Bala’s goals and scored a great goal himself, with Isaac Edwards, Stephen and Tom also impressing.
