Connahs Quay high school was the venue, as Bala travelled to play opponents Gap Connahs Quay
As the teams took their places before kickoff the difference in the size between the two teams was obvious, and you could be forgiven for thinking Bala might be in for tough afternoon, and for the first 30 minutes this certainly was the case.
From the kick off the lads found themselves under pressure and struggled to come to terms with the opposition who to their credit played some nice football which led to them scoring after 10 minutes.
Chances came and went for Connahs Quay, but due to some great defending by the Bala lads, (mention must go to another great goaline clearance by Matty Evans), and some sloppy finishing by Connahs Quay.
At the half hour mark we were still trailing by just the one goal, the lads seemed to take heart from this and slowly but surely started to have some possession of their own.
In midfield tackles started to be won and passes found their man and from this came a great through ball by Will Hughes which split the Quay defence and put Luke Humphreys through on goal. Lukes shot was stopped by the keeper, but fortunately came back Lukes way to be slotted into the net by the striker.
With half time approaching the lads went looking for a second goal, Tom Mayers received the ball on the left wing, held off two defenders and played a nice ball across to Luke who took an early shot which was again saved by the Quay keeper, the ball again coming back out at a tight angle with Luke taking a shot which this time went over the crossbar.
Half time 1-1.
The first 10 minutes of the second half were almost a copy of the start of the first half with Quay trying to push for an early goal which they then got when a low cross came in which unluckily Dan Jones couldn’t quite keep hold of and the oppositions striker knocked in from close range.
This time thought Bala were at their opposition straight away with Robert John moved into centre midfield giving a great battling display and some good play going down the left wing from Will Roberts.
After some good pressure Bala´s equalizer came when we were awarded a free kick about 25 yards out.
Quay set there wall their keeper positioned himself, up steps Ryan Jones who shoots and puts the ball beautifully into the top corner. The keeper only managing to get fingertips to the ball, a superb free kick and deserved equalizer. 2-2.
With Bala now playing the better football Quay seemed a little rattled which may have led to Bala´s third goal. Some nice play down the left wing saw the ball being played between two of Quay´s defenders into the penalty area.
Tom Mayers ran onto the ball and was brought down by a Quay defender. Penalty Bala. Luke stepped up to take the penalty and put the ball nicely into the bottom corner.
3-2 and Bala are infront for the first time in the match with 15 minutes to go.
After going ahead things became a little frantic in the run in to the final whistle with Quay pushing for an equalizer and us defending everything they threw our way, but unfortunately Quay got their equalizer late on with a nicely taken goal.
Final score - 3-3.
