Local derby begins Wrexham Area Reserves Divison campaign
Corwen opened the scoring in the 20th minute, as Scott Evans sent a powerful drive from 20 yards out, which ended up in the bottom corner of the net.
Corwen doubled their advantage through Tomos Dolben Hughes, as he collected a long clearance in his own half, and ran at the Bala keeper, before shooting the ball over him, onto the underside of the crossbar, and in to the back of the net.
The match was held up for a lengthy period as Bala’s Dan Lloyd (pictured) was injured. Dan had to go to A&E, and has suffered some ankle ligament damage. We would like to wish him a speedy recovery.
In first half stoppage time Bala were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box, which former Corwen player Gethin Edwards stepped up to take. Edwards sent a curling low shot at goal, which beat keeper Chris Davies to reduce Bala’s deficit to one goal. There was still time for Corwen to come within inches of restoring their 2 goal cushion, as Nathan Davies shot at goal, only to see his shot hit the post.
In the second half Bala found an equaliser when Ricky Rowlands hit the post, and saw the ball rebound into Gethin Edwards’s path, who shot into the back of the net from just outside the box.
The Lakesiders found the winner in the 85th minute, when their winger crossed the ball into the box from near the touchline, and the ball was not dealt with by the Corwen defence, and went in at the far post.
