Prestatyn Town 0, Bala Town 1

On Saturday Bala Town visited Bastion Gardens, Prestatyn with the aim of extending their unbeaten run which had seen them take 13 points from a possible 15 available - and at the same time consolidate their position at the top of the league.

Prestatyn have proved to be difficult opponents to beat in recent seasons and Saturday´s match proved to be no exception - Bala having to rely on a wonder goal from Mark Connolly to seal the three points.

The first quarter of the match proved to be a bit flat with neither side imposing themselves on the game and the best couple of early half chances falling to Prestatyn.

Bala, playing with a strong wind behind them, took the lead however on 35 minutes, when Mark Connolly, receiving the Ball a few yards into the Prestatyn half, saw that the home keeper was slightly off his line and launched a perfectly weighted ball over the keeper into the net - a sublime goal, albeit wind assisted. For the remaining minutes of the half Bala were in the ascendancy and had another couple of opportunities to extend their lead.

Prestatyn came out for the second half in a much more determined mood and taking advantage of the wind pegged Bala back into their own half for long periods during the half. A combination of strong defending by Bala and over-hit passes by Prestatyn saw the score remain at 1-0 to the visitors until the final whistle.

Another excellent three points for the Lakesiders - we now look forward to playing Llanelli at Maes Tegid next Sunday.

Meanwhile, our Reserves won 7-1 against Llay Welfare Reserves to move into second position in the Wrexham Area Reserves League. Goals were supplied by George Davies, Iwan Roberts, Gwydion Ifan (3), Gethin Edwards and Ilan Hughes.
