Match Report
Llanelli 3, Bala Town 1
Written by Nigel on Mon 21st November 11, 12:03
On a fine autumn afternoon in South Wales and on a perfect playing surface Bala suffered another attack of poor first half performances in Llanelli and trailed 2-0 at half time.
The first 20 minutes of the game was shared equally with little in the way of clear chances for either side.
Conall Murtagh then forced the home keeper into a fine save from his close range effort and at the other end Jason Bowen fired well over from a good position.
Bala have failed on many occasions in the past to defend corners in Llanelli and on 29 minutes a far post corner was headed back across goal for the prolific Rhys Griffiths to see his shot deflected over a despairing Bala keeper.
The lead was doubled 10 minutes later when a long punt upfield saw Bowen outstep Stef Edwards to cross for an unmarked Craig Williams to hammer home.
The home side nearly increased this lead but shot wide from an excellent opportunity.
Bala brought on Chris Mason at half time and put up a spirited second half performance.
Mark Connolly had a shot tipped over the bar.
Peter Doran went agonisingly close after a fine run into the box and Chris Mason fired straight at the keeper.
Bala were dominating possession in their attempt to get a goal back but were then hit on the break by a classic left wing passing move which saw Corbissiero side foot home from close range.
Bala finally clawed a goal back on 84 minutes when Chris Mason diverted a Liam Loughlin shot wide of the home keeper.
The final 3-1 scoreline was a just reward for Llanelli and Bala will have to improve next Sunday when the highly financed players of Neath visit Maes Tegid.
