Bala were hoping to complete the double over their Mid-Wales rivals, who they defeated 4-0 in September, thanks to two goals apiece from Mark Connolly and Lee Hunt.
It was the visitors that created the first real chance of the match though on a chilly and wet Bala evening, as the Lakesiders had to scramble the ball away after James McCarten got his head on to the end of a corner.
Lee Hunt came close to getting his 3rd goal against Aberystwyth this season, as a free kick was taken from near the touchline, 40 yards from goal; which Lee Hunt was able to get his head on to, but it went narrowly wide.
Hunt came close to scoring again 10 minutes later as Mark Jones picked the pocket of an Aberystwyth attacker, allowing him to cross the ball into the box; where Hunt tried to control the ball in the air; however he was unable to do so, and the ball went out for a goal kick.
Mark Connolly was able to pull off a pin point 30 yard pass midway through the first half as he picked out Stephen Brown, who saw his shot cleared by the visitors defence.
The deadlock was broke three minutes before the interval, as a long cross was played into the Aberystwyth box from near the touchline; which was meat by the stooped head of Lee hunt, who flicked the ball home.
The visitors came close to equalising two minutes later, as Mark Jones gave away a free-kick 30 yards from goal. James McCarten took the free kick; which was on target, and forced Terry McCormick into having to tip the ball over the crossbar.
The Lakesiders doubled their advantage in the second minute of stoppage time, as they hit the visitors on the counter attack, which ended with a pass being hit across the pitch; which was hit with a brilliant first time shot from Connolly; which saw the ball go in to the opposite corner of the net. If Mark Connolly continues to score goals of this quality, Sgorio will have to give him his own goal of the season competition.
Ten minutes into the second half Bala were planning to make a substitution; which would have seen Rees Darlington replace Danny Williams; but the Bala bench decided to delay the change until after the next Bala attack, and they were glad they did, as a long ball was played to Lee Hunt, who ran at the Aberystwyth defence, before finding space, droppinghis shoulder, and firing home to make the score 3-0.
Aberystwyth thought they had pulled a goal back with just under half an hour to play, as Dave Swanick ran down the wing, before crossing to Lewis Codling, who had a tap in on the 6 yard line; but his celebrations were short lived, as the linesman had his flag up, meaning the goal was disallowed for offside.
With just over 6 minutes of normal time remaining Bala manager opted to replace Captain Mark Jones, who was on a yellow card. The substitution gave a moment to remember for Bala academy star Ilan Hughes (pictured), who came on to his make his first team debut. Ilan made a good impression in his short spell on the pitch; which saw play down right wing.
