Lakesiders leave it late to seal all three points.
It was a happy journey back north for the Lakesiders thanks to an injury time wonder strike by Chris Venables.
The Lakesiders started very well and saw plenty of the ball in the early stages with Les Davies’ strike being saved by Fuller and the forward’s following effort minutes later trickling wide of the post.
Town’s good chances continued when a decent ball from Evans picked out an umarked Mike Hayes but his resulting headed was placed wide.
As the half continued, play evened out with Met having good spells of possession but Bala were having the better opportunities and the game went in even at the break 0-0 following a very professional display from the Lakesiders.
It was a cracking start to the second half as Town took the lead on 54 minutes. A throughball from Chris Venables found Mike Hayes who skipped past his marker, turned Fuller and fired into an empty net.
However Town’s lead was shortlived as two minutes later the home side were level. McCarthy turned Lee Owens to fire in a ball across the face of goal which was met by Elliot Evans from around 5 yards out.
Met almost doubled their lead from the restart when goalkeeper Ashley Morris was forced to make an outstanding point blank save to deny Baker who only had him to beat.
Down the other end, Fuller palmed Les Davies low goalbound strike around the post before Fuller again collected a Davies header from Evans’ floating freekick.
Bala should’ve doubled their advantage when a golden opportunity came from Hayes who’s diving header curled centimetres wide of the far upright.
A minute later Town hand another massive chance when Sheridan closed down Woolridge forcing him to lose the ball which he pounced on but with only Fuller to beat he lost his composure and blazed over the bar.
Met took advantage of Town’s missed chances and threw the kitchen sink at the Lakesiders in the closing stages. Baker had the ball in the net after Met carved open the Bala backline but he was deemed offside before Jordan Lam curled wide.
Town’s solid defending plus their determination and patience paid off as in the fourth minute of additional time they got their reward.
The ball arrived to Venables on the edge of the box who unleashed a fierce top corner bound strike which left Fuller helpless in the Cardiff net ensuring that Town went home with all three points.
A much improved team display by the Lakesiders who gave their all this afternoon. It was a challenge against a strong and youthful Met outfit but a touch of magic from Chris Venables sets Town up well in the race for a top six spot.
