Lakesiders bounce back with victory over the Robins!
After a rocky run of results as of late, Bala’s season got back on track with a much needed win away at Latham Park.
Newtown started the game the better of the two teams, with most of the play for the opening 10 minutes as Kenton tested early on and Morris having to save Mitchell’s effort in the box.
Following a couple of half chances for the Lakesiders, they took the lead on 12 minutes when Jordan Evans picked up the ball near the halfway line from Davies, outran the defence and powered home in the box putting the ball under David Jones.
After the restart, Newtown could’ve been level when a volley from Nick Rushton was curled narrowly wide of the far post.
Town were building some pressure with a brilliant throughball from Evans finding Hayes but he was deemed offside.
However, Newtown brought the game level. On 28 minutes, Bala lost possession in the centre circle which was scooped up by the Robins to release Kenton down the wing who cut in and blasted home at near post.
A spectacular effort from Denny forced Morris into tipping the chance over the crossbar after the restart.
Before the interval, Burke struck wide, Davies flicked a header wide and Morris punched away a Kershaw chance down the other end.
After a heartening first half performance, Town’s second half effort was even better.
Evans could’ve added his second of the night on 56 minutes when he rattled the bar from just inside the box after a passage of play.
Two minutes later, Bala re-took the lead. A long ball from Thompson was flicked on by Burke and the ball fell to Hayes on the edge of the box which he volleyed past Jones giving the Newtown shotstopper no chance.
Then it was three! Jordan Evans’ low freekick from around 25 yards out was fired into the bottom corner on after 59 minutes.
From then, Town’s three points were safe with Newtown kept quiet for the remainder of the half with Bala looking strong in midfield with Murtagh, Burke and Evans running the show throughout.
A much better performance by the Lakesiders with plenty of positives to take onto next week’s game against Barry Town United.
