This summer, the FAW has work with local football clubs in Wales to offer FREE football session to children across the nation as part of our exciting McDonalds’s Fun Football programme. As the national team gets ready for the excitement of Euro 2021, we want to echo this excitement to the future generation of Welsh footballers.
The sessions are open to 5-11 year-olds in Wales, whom themselves may have never attended a football session in their life before. Our programme, approved by UEFA, offers exciting opportunities for children to fall in love with football through their active participation. The primary aim of the sessions is all about children to ‘turn up and play’, allowing ‘skill development through creative football practice’.
Hayley Ladd, who plays in Wales’s women’s football team and Manchester United, argues the importance of these Fun Free Football sessions to children in Wales. As stated by Ladd,
” In these recent challenging times it is more important ever for children to be active as it helps not only their physical health but also their mental health, which is just as important”.
Our Free Fun Football sessions will start on the 11th of June, with each club running a total of four sessions during the summer. Covid – 19 protocols will be put in place by each club when running the sessions to ensure the safety of the coaches and the children.
