It’s Derby Day at Maes Tegid!

Following the mid-week disappointment against Connah’s Quay, The Lakesiders return to Maes Tegid for Derby Day as Caernarfon Town make the trip over.

The visitors currently sit just outside the Champions Conference, as Haverfordwest County have a three goal better goal difference than the Cofi’s. Since the resumption of the league season, the Cofi’s have managed four points in two games, with a 2-0 away win against Flint Town, and a pulsating 2-2 draw at home to Aberystwyth Town, after Jamie Veale equalised in the 96th minute of the game.

Bala, on the flip side have played three games since the restart, and have also picked up four points. A trip to Park Hall saw The Town pick up a point in an enthralling battle against The New Saints, then picking up three points at The Rock with a 3-1 win over Cefn Druids, despite going behind early on in the game. Bala then welcomed Nomads to Maes Tegid, where they would walk away with the three points as Craig Curran sealed the deal for the visitors in the 86th minute after a disappointing performance by The Lakesiders, and have the perfect opportunity to bounce back against their Gwynedd Rivals this afternoon.

The previous meeting between the two clubs was back at the start of December last year, with a mid-week trip to The Oval. The hosts took the lead mid-way through the first half, as Noah Edwards managed to squeeze a shot between Ramsay and the post to give his side the lead, however on the stroke of half-time, Bala were handed a brilliant opportunity to snatch an equaliser, as the Caernarfon keeper brought down Will Evans inside the box, with the referee having no doubts and pointing to the spot. The Captain Chris Venables stepped up and calmly placed his spot kick into the bottom left corner, bringing the game level just on half-time. Despite there being plenty of chances in the second half, the game finished 1-1 although Bala should of grabbed all three points late on with a golden opportunity with a scramble inside the hosts’ box, however a point a piece was how it ended.

It’s always a tough match for both teams, and today is no different, with both teams needing the points for different reasons as Caernarfon chase that Champions Conference, and Bala chasing the league’s two front runners. The Lakesiders will look to put the damaging defeat in mid-week behind them and concentrate on a strong finish to Phase 1!
