Televised game at Maes Tegid tonight!
After a week’s break following postponement of our mid-week fixture against Flint Town due to a waterlogged pitch, the Lakesiders are back at Maes Tegid with Aberystwyth Town being the visitors, with Sgorio also bringing live coverage over on S4C.
Therefore, our opponents for tonight’s fixture are Aberystwyth Town, who, after 7 games played currently sit in 6th place with 8 points, just above Bala in the league standings, however the Lakesiders are 3 games behind and sit on 7 points. So far, Aber have won 2, drawn 2 and lost 3, and are joint third highest scorers in the league along with Caernarfon Town. Their previous fixture saw them ship 4 goals past Cefn Druids away from home, however their only other win saw them defeat promoted side Flint Town in a 3-1 win, whilst then suffering defeats against Cardiff Met, Connah’s Quay Nomads and Barry Town.
The previous meeting between the two clubs came in November last year, as the Lakesiders ran riot at Park Avenue and put 5 past the home side on that occasion. After 28 minutes, Bala took the lead with a Venables assist to Henry Jones who put the ball under the keeper to make it 1-0. The Lakesiders then doubled their lead with a minute to go of the first half, as Louis Robles headed home from a corner to put Bala into a 2-0 lead at the interval. The next goal came with a piece of brilliance from Chris Venables, who dribbled past a Aber defender and hit a stunning strike into the top corner from outside the box and made it 3-0 to the Lakesiders with 20 minutes remaining. Only 5 minutes later, Bala had strengthened their lead with a goal coming from Louis Robles who hit a rocket into the net to make it 4-0 to the Lakesiders. With 7 minutes remaining, Bala completed the 5 star performance with Venables grabbing his 2nd after the original lob from Robles was saved, which gave Venners an easy tap-in to give Bala the 5-0 win.
A big blow for Aber this transfer window, was the departure of Touray Sisay, who made the big step up to the Football League with Grimsby Town, however they have recruited with the likes of Jamie Veale, Owain Jones and Rhys Davies who are all young Welsh Players and will look to find their feet in the Cymru Premier. They’ve also added George Harry, Sam Barnes and Steve Hewitt to their ranks, with all of them having experience in the top flight, and Jonathan Evans and Steff Davies joining as local lads who will look to make an impression with their home town club.
The Lakesiders have had a week’s break since a shock defeat to promoted side Haverfordwest, following a late winner to steal all 3 points, although Bala were scheduled to play in mid-week away to Flint Town, however with the heavy rain recently, the pitch was waterlogged and subsequently the match was postponed. Therefore, the Lakesiders will look to bounce back from their shock defeat, and look to put things right, especially being a televised game. Aber will now look to go on a good run after handing Cefn Druids a 4-0 defeat in mid-week, so tonight’s fixture is all set to be a cracker!
No fans will be allowed to attend the match with strict safety protocols to follow to ensure the game can go ahead.
