A frustrating afternoon for our Reserves.
A tough battle for our Reserves on Saturday (26th of October) as they faced up against top of the table in Connah’s Quay Nomads Reserves, who were looking to continue their 100% start in the league this season.
Despite losing to Nomads Reserves in the Reserves & Colts League Cup (Match Report) our Reserves were looking to ruin their 100% league record.
Dion was called into action early on as he denied Nomads an early breakthrough with a great save.
Seconds later, Joe went for goal but was saved easily by the keeper.
Then minutes later, Joe had another attempt on goal, however this time it didn’t trouble the keeper and went over. Encouraging signs by our Reserves.
It took only 7 minutes for the ref to brandish his first yellow card, as AJ picked up one for a cynical foul, only for Dan to pick up a yellow a minute later.
Nomads looked threatening on the attack, as a ball was put across the box, yet no one was there to poke the ball home, big let off for our Reserves.
However with the same attacking play minutes later, Nomads made it count, after some sloppy defensive play by Bala let Nomads put the ball across the box for a tap in past Dion in net. 1-0 Nomads with only 13 minutes gone.
Bala came close on 20 minutes through Cai, who latched on to a header, yet his toe poke on goal was blocked and went out for a corner.
From the corner, Bala think they’ve equalised after AJ leaped highest to head the ball home, however the ref deemed a foul on the keeper and the goal was ruled out.
Despite the ref disallowing AJ’s goal… He wasn’t disallowing this one! Cai latched on to a ball that came over the top of the defence, with one defender to beat, he used the bounce to his advantage and took it around the defender and slotted the ball into the side netting! Bala back on level terms at 1-1 just before half an hour!
Despite there being 15 minutes left of the half, no team had much opportunity to take the lead, therefore at half time the score stayed the same at 1-1. A decent half for Bala, despite there being no fluidity throughout the half due to free kicks being given every so often, yet Bala were able to equalise through Cai after some brilliant work to get past the last defender and slot the ball home.
More of the same from Bala in the second half was needed, and with only a minute gone of the second half, Cai looked to test the keeper but his effort was saved easily.
Bala nearly took the lead, only for the woodwork keeping out AJ’s header, after he was up highest to meet the corner, however the score stayed 1-1.
Cai then looked to test the keeper again, but this time the keeper had to pull of a great save, to get down to his right to keep out Cai’s effort.
A double substitution for Bala was made, as AJ and Tom Lloyd came off for Adam Galdo and Andy Kelly.
It took until the 73rd minute for either team to take the lead, and unfortunately for Bala, it was Nomads who took the lead, after some brilliant play from the Nomads attacker, who latched onto the ball in the midfield, dribbled past a couple of players, 1 on 1 with Dion and calmly went around him and poked it home, 2-1 Nomads with just over 15 minutes left.
Harri Watkin replaced Callum Gregory with 10 minutes to play.
With just 5 minutes to go, Nomads put the game to bed as a scuffed attempt on goal fell to a Nomads player in the box, despite calls for offside, he slotted the ball past Dion and into the goal, 3-1 to Nomads.
Despite being level at the break, Nomads pick up all 3 points at the final whistle and leave Bala ruing their missed opportunities.
