A brilliant performance capped off with 3 points!
The Reserves bagged their first 3 points of the league campaign with a brilliant performance after defeating Overton Reserves 4-2 last Saturday (17th of August)
Bala started well during the first 10 minutes, earning themselfs 3 corners, however nothing came of any of them.
Harri Watkin had the first attempt on goal, unfortunately his shot was sliced wide.
Tom Lloyd came close a couple of minutes later, as he was slipped through, behind the defence, however his shot was saved well by the Overton keeper and out for a corner.
Another chance for Bala as Cai Aykroyd was given the ball on the edge of the box by Harri, but after Cai finished the ball nicely, the ref deemed Cai offside and ruled the goal out.
The breakthrough was made on 17 minutes, and despite Bala’s good start, it was Overton who got the first goal. A long range shot goes over Josh in goal, who was off his line and into the net. Very unlucky for Bala, after a decent start, their work was undone.
Overton were made to take off their keeper through injury after a collision in the box.
For majority of the half, Overton struggled to even get out of their own half with the ball, although Bala still could not find the equaliser.
Bala had a penalty shout waved away on 37 minutes after Dan Lindsay looked to have been shoved in the back, and went down, but the referee showed no interest in the challenge.
Although Bala were dominant throughout the first half, Overton went on to make it 2-0 on 38 minutes, as a ball was slipped in through the Bala defence to an Overton attacker who had plenty of time to make his decision. His first shot was saved by Josh but the rebound went in, despite calls for offside again, the goal stood and it was 2-0 to Overton!
Yet, there was still 7 minutes left of the half…
It only took Bala 3 minutes to get a goal back, as they were given a free kick on the edge of the box, which Joe took and rifled it into the top right hand corner! Right back into it at 2-1!
Still 4 minutes left of the half, and what an action packed couple of minutes! Harri was first to try and level the scores, however his shot hit the side netting! Then a handball from the Overton defender inside the box was waved away! And then finally… on the stroke of half time, Cai Aykroyd receives the ball inside the box and smashes the ball into the net! 2-2 and nothing more than Bala deserved!
A very promising first half performance, even though Bala went down 2-0, but the desire and heart went into getting the 2 goals back before half time.
The second half started with Bala on the front foot again, with Tom Lloyd coming close with a header, after Dave Yates put a driven cross into the box, but Tom’s header just went over the bar!
Good footwork by Joe Ephraim on the edge of the visitors box, after beating 4 defenders, his shot blazed over the bar, very unlucky.
Substitutions were made as Callum Gregory,Barry Jones and Ifan Jones came on for Tom Lloyd,Dan Lindsay and Adam Galdo.
Josh was called into action, as he denied the visiting forward an attempt on goal as he was quick off his line to block any further trouble.
It took until 71 minutes for a Bala attack to come into fruition, as Tommy Redgrift pinged a ball over the Overton defence, into Joe Ephraim, who took a wonderful touch to set him up for the volley… and what a finish! A left footed rocket into the top left hand corner put Bala in the lead, and deservedly so!
Then on 80 minutes, Cai Aykroyd all but sealed the victory for Bala, as he picked the ball up in the midfield and dribbled past a number of Overton players and calmly placed the ball into the bottom right hand corner! Brilliant finish and what a brilliant game by Bala!
Little happened in the final 10 minutes of the game, which saw the final whistle go, and saw Bala pick up a 4-2 victory in their 3rd league game!
A solid performance by the lads, which see them now on 5 points out of 3 games in the league.
Well done to Dave Yates who was voted as the Man Of The Match by his fellow compatriots.
The Reserves will head into their next game on Wednesday (21st of August) as they welcome Coedpoeth Reserves to Maes Tegid for a 7:30p.m. kick off.
