Positive performance not enough for our reserves.

2 late goals were the difference between our reserves and their opponents on this occasion.

A bright start from the visitors saw them go 1-0 up in the 2nd minute, as a slip by a Bala defender allowed Saltney to hit the byline and drive a cross across the box which was met by a Saltney forward.

It took only 7 minutes for the visitors to double their lead, as a Saltney corner came in, bounced about the box until it fell to a Saltney player, who poked it home past the keeper to make it 2-0.

However it only took Bala a minute to get back into the game, as a ball over the top of the Saltney defence leads to Cai Aykroyd running in on goal, as he tussled with a Saltney defender, as shouts for a foul on the defender were waved away, Cai then calmly placed the ball under the left hand side of the keeper and into the net! Game on at 2-1!

A fast paced first 10 minutes was the main talking point of the first half, as the rest of the half was filled with half chances and a lot of possesion by Bala. The pick of the half chances by Bala came in the 40th minute as Steve Jones’ half volley was dragged wide of the post as Bala were set to rue their chances that they should of finished in the first half.

The half time whistle went with Bala confident that they could get something out of the game. Bala struggled to get into the game in the first 10 minutes, however following Cai Aykroyds goal, they were much the better team, they knew the game was there for the taking as they prepared to go out for the second half.

It only took 5 minutes for Bala to get back on level terms as Tom Lloyd was fouled on the right hand side of the box after a dangling leg by the Saltney defender brought him down. Joe Ephraim stepped up and convincingly placed it into the top right hand corner.

Besides a couple of subs, the rest of the second half did not live up to the expectations of the first half, however Bala were called into action on 73 minutes as a corner came in from Saltney resulted in another scramble in the box, a Saltney player poked the ball towards goal, although Rob Woods was on the line to clear and took a knock from the post for his troubles.

However on 85 minutes, miscommunication between the Bala defence and keeper after a cross came in, lead to the ball dropping kindly to a Saltney player who tapped it home to dishearten the Bala plaers, after such a positive performance.

It got worse for Bala on 89 minutes as a shot on target by a Saltney player was saved well by Leon in goal, but the rebound was scuffed home to make it 4-2 to Saltney, although there were calls for offside from the original shot on target, they were waved away and the goal stood, much to the disappointment of the whole squad.

The final whistle went, and after a solid performance, Bala were unable to get a result, although there were plenty of positives to take out of the match, those positives will be implemented into each and every upcoming game going into the league campaign.
