The Lakesiders had the honour of hosting Wales U18’s v Republic of Ireland U18’s Academy sides at Maes Tegid today.

On Tuesday evening, Ireland were 1-0 winners over Wales at The Rock, Cefn Druids.

Today, it was quite the goalfest as Rian Ashe gave the visitors an early lead. Wales hit back through Telor Williams before James Parry doubled Wales’ advantage.

Rian Ashe and Aaron McDaid hit back before the interval in two quickfire goals giving the Irish a 3-2 lead at the break.

There were no further goals in the second half but it was a fantastic game of football between two competitive and talented countries. The Republic took home the John McCoughlin Cup and were awarded their caps following the game.

Huge thanks to everyone at the FA Wales and FA Ireland for choosing to host such a prestigious fixture and safe journey back to all the players, management and supporters.
