The Foundation sides were in action on Sunday as they welcomed Newtown to Maes Tegid.
Read all about how they got on below!
Bala started controlling the tempo immediately, playing tidy and positive 2 touch passing football attacking the channels and defending strongly. Jac Watkins started in goal, Ioan Morris starting at right back, Llion Roberts at left back, the communication and recovery of possession from the oppositions attack was immediately effective. Caio Jones starting at left midfield, Robin Williams at centre midfield and Jac Jones on the right were dictating the play in midfield, Elliot starting as centre forward was impressive in his holding of the ball and recovering of possession when it was lost.
A few changes in personnel was taken, Sebi Aykroyd Duckett came on for Elliot, the intensity didn’t drop at all. Sebi was impressive throughout with his attacking and recovery of Possession.
Jac was then rested, Elliot went left midfield and Caio on the right. Newtown were probing and exploiting spaces that they were creating efficiently, Ioan and Llion in defence were excellent in breaking up play, while Jac Watkins showed excellent reflexes in running out and clearing any through balls that came through. Robin in midfield was looking to attack or switch play at every opportunity.
Jac then came on for Caio, Jac and Robin replaced Llion and Ioan in defence, Ioan went centre midfield, Elliot went on the right, Llion on the left and Sebi stayed as centre forward. Bala were dictating play once again, Jac and Robin were attacking efficiently as overlapping full backs with Llion and Elliott.
Man of the Match – Each and every one today played 10 out of 10, so honour is shared between all of them.
A chance for the boys to impress the boss today as Colin Caton came to give advice and encouragement to the Academy. And for half the game he would have been impressed as especially the first quarter which we ended up playing in their half. Some good chances solid at the back with Iestyn impressing with his hard tackling an dangerous from corners but couldn’t get the ball over the line. The only disappointment was our play in the final third as we couldn’t get the ball wide quickly enough to exploit the space.
Deio came on in the middle of midfield and thought we kept the ball better keeping it simple in the middle of the pitch moving it forward, Dafydd and Osian applying pressure. We scored a goal after breaking quickly – Ffranc with a good finish. We were on top now and it felt like only a matter of time before we scored again, then Newtown win the ball in the middle and played the ball through the middle with our defence with the keeper thinking we were playing offside was slow off his line and a neat finish from their striker.
We took Dafydd and Osh off as they were getting a run out for the U12’s and that changed the balance of the game lost control of the middle of the park and they started to dominate. This was the most disappointing aspect of the game as we were expecting a reaction from the boys not starting and got the wrong one with their heads dropping after they scored a deflected cross. Conceded another soft goal as most of the back line failed to win their 50/50 and their player dribbled right through the middle of our defence before setting up his strike partner. While pleased with the first 30/40 min not being able to sustain that for the last 20 was disappointing.
