Bala Town are delighted to reveal their 5th signing of the Summer Transfer Window with the acquisition of centre forward Andy Mangan.
The 31 year old joins following his release from Tranmere Rovers last month and is a well known name within the English Football League.
Starting out his illustrious career at Blackpool aged 15, he spent three years scoring 49 goals in the reserve and youth teams prior to his professional debut in 2004 v Chesterfield.
Following a brief loan move to Hyde United, Andy joned Accrington Stanley in the Conference where he scored 10 goals in 45 starts for the Club and gained promotion with Stanley into the Football League. Next was a stint at Bury which saw him score 5 goals in 20 starts in his year at Gigg Lane.
In 2008, he signed for Forest Green Rovers and this is where his goalscoring reputation began as he netted 26 goals in 41 games in his two year spell.
Wrexham were next for him in 2010 with 65 appearances and 22 goals but when the Reds failed to gain promotion he was picked up by Fleetwood Town. Again Mangan made headlines scoring 24 goals in 53 games.
After a couple of loan spells back at Forest Green and Luton he signed for Shrewsbury Town in 2014 and after a year at the New Meadow he joined Tranmere Rovers with a total of 63 games for them.
Manager Colin Caton told us exclusively on signing Mangan;
“Andy is a massive signing for us at Bala Town. To attract such a talented player at this stage of his career is fantastic.
Andy is looking to get in to the coaching side of the game and is currently on the UEFA A Licence at the Welsh Football Trust with Ste Fisher and that’s where the ball started rolling to come and join us.
He will be studying and coaching in the day time and this enables Andy to play part time and I’m happy to have Andy on board with us for the coming season.
Mangan will bring so much to the team and the dressing room which is so important to us at Bala with the right blend of person we look for. Andy will fit in well with the group like the other new signings of Steven Tames, Sean Smith, Anthony Miley and Andrew Burns.”
He has been given the number 14 shirt for the Lakesiders. Welcome to Maes Tegid Andy!
