Another Five-on-Form appearance for Venables!

Sgorio picks the five players that stood out in the Welsh Premier League over the weekend.

Alex Lynch (Llandudno)
Alex Lynch was kept busy between the sticks in the 2-2 draw between Llandudno and Prestatyn on Friday night. Iwan Williams’ men haven’t been on the best of runs lately but could easily have fell to a defeat against bottom side Prestatyn if not for some fine shot-stopping by January signing Alex Lynch.

Chris Venables (Bala Town)
Lakesiders captain, Chris Venables netted twice at Nantporth on Friday night as Bala Town climbed above Bangor in the race for 2nd place. It was the first time that Bala have scored twice in a game since December, and Venables could have bagged himself a hat-trick if it wasn’t for Matthew Hall’s fine save from his second spot kick.

Drew Fahiya (Barry Town)
In wet and windy conditions at Richmond Park, Drew Fahiya’s first goal in the WPL since January 2011 was enough to secure Barry’s place in the WPL for next season. Gavin Chesterfield’s side remain the only club to have won every game since the league split.

Joe Phillips (Aberystwyth)
Following Carmarthen’s defeat on Friday night, Aberystwyth knew that a win on Saturday would put them 11 points clear of the drop zone. Joe Phillips scored the only goal at Latham Park with a well placed finish from the edge of the box into the bottom right corner.

Michael Bakare (Connah’s Quay)
Connah’s Quay completed a remarkable comeback against Cefn Druids on Saturday as they fought back from 0-1 down to win 2-1 with only nine men on the pitch after James Owen and George Horan were both sent off for the Nomads. Bakare combined effectively with Ryan Wignall before netting the winning goal in the 85th minute to the delight of his manager Andy Morrison, and to keep the Nomads firmly in the race for 2nd spot and automatic European qualification.
