On this day a year ago, the new-look 3G surface at Maes Tegid was finished and unveiled for the first time.
Fast forward 12 months and what a year it has been for the Club! Town kicked off at home to Bangor City on Friday, 23rd September infront of a bumper crowd at Maes Tegid that were treated to an exciting 1-1 draw and since that night, the Club has gone from strength to strength.
For three nights a week, the Town Academy train with over 140 boys and girls coming from all over North Wales to play on our state of the art pitch. Results have been improving and the standard of coaching is getting better and better across all age groups.
Clubs from all over have used the pitch on a regular basis with Llanuwchllyn and Corwen training every Wednesday evening which has resulted in successful seasons for both our local teams. Llandyrnog, Ruthin Town, Porthmadog, Penrhyndeudraeth, Llay, Llanberis, Ynys Mon senior teams to name a few have all visited for League and friendly games and it has been superb to see them all enjoy the facilities at Maes Tegid.
Bala Juniors train on a Thursday evening and play in the Wrexham & District Youth League on a Saturday morning which gives hundreds of children the opportunity to play regularly and be able to go home without being caked in mud like previous years!
We’ve built up strong relationships with Urdd Meirionnydd, Coleg Meirion Dwyfor and North Wales Police. Tournaments with the local schools and societies, a new Scholars team and a Kickabout Club have all been launched in the past year giving further opportunities to local children. We’ve held numerous Junior Tournaments and a Junior Bragdy Cup plus launched sessions exclusively for girls and ladies. Our Ladies side have entered a League for the first time and our Thursday evening Girls U16’s sessions are on the rise. Coleg Y Bala have held midweek sessions after school for boys and girls wanting a kickabout with their friends.
‘Lakesiders in the Community’ under Andy Kelly’s leadership has flourished with successful Holiday Camps held during halfterm, Easter and summer holidays. We have hosted many birthday parties and have been accredited as a ‘Fun Football’ provider for the opportunies that we have been able to provide.
Our connections with the schools are the strongest they have ever been with 6 schools taking up our After School Clubs and training on the pitch during school hours. Ysgol y Berwyn host all their football competitions at Maes Tegid including their sport lessons which allow them to have classes in all weather conditions.
Back in February, Maes Tegid held it’s first ever International as Wales U18’s welcomed Republic of Ireland U18’s notching another historic milestone for the Club. In April, the Champions League Trophy rolled into Maes Tegid as part of the Trophy Tour in the lead up to Cardiff hosting Real Madrid v Juventus
Next year we already have two FAW Football Leaders Awards being organised by the FAW Trust and plenty more plans in the pipeline.
