After encouraging performances in recent weeks, Bala secured their first win in the Super Sixes with a hard-fought win over Airbus.
On a wet and windy afternoon in Bala, conditions made it difficult for both teams but Bala settled quickly putting pressure on the Airbus defence.
After 10 minutes Bala took the lead when some good work between Cai and Pat saw Pat go clear only for his effort to be saved by the keeper. The ball was only half-cleared and fell to Owain who struck the ball sweetly from 30 yards into the top corner and make it 1-0.
The next 15 minutes were very competitive with neither team able to have a clear effort on goal. A clearance then found Pat just inside the Airbus half and a weaving run past four players saw him clear in the Airbus box for him to slide it neatly home past the oncoming keeper to make it 2-0 to Bala.
Airbus then worked themselves back into the game which saw them half the deficit 5 minutes from half time when some good one touch play around the Bala box found their left winger who crossed the ball to find an oncoming Airbus player to side foot home.
Halftime: Bala Town U14’s 2, Airbus U14’s 1.
With conditions deteriorating, the game evened itself out with Bala soaking up the Airbus pressure and restricting them to long range efforts.
With Airbus pushing forward and with Bala happy to play on the break, a cross from Bala’s right hand side 25 minutes into the second half was mishit to Dion and unfortunately, he couldn’t find the target to extend Bala’s lead.
With 5 minutes to go, a free kick from the Airbus right was floated deep into the Bala box – Gethin confidently came out to punch the ball and clear the danger.
With Airbus looking for the equaliser, a ball over the top found Owain and when just outside the box he was fouled for a free kick to Bala. Jamie stepped up and his shot was pushed on to the bar by the Airbus keeper.
With no time remaining, the referee blew for full time and a welcome and deserved win for the young Lakesiders.
Fulltime: Bala Town U14’s 2, Airbus U14’s 1.
