Our first ever International fixture has almost arrived.
Tuesday evening will be another historic chapter for Bala Town as we host our first ever International at Maes Tegid.
Mark Pike’s Wales Under 18’s side will welcome Republic of Ireland U18’s in the first of a double header against the Irish this week. They will face Ireland again on Thursday afternoon at Newtown. Check out our chat with Mark here. The countries will be playing for the ‘John Coughlan Memorial Cup’ which Wales are currently holders of.
Both squads are made up of homegrown players from the clubs within the countries Academy structure. Wales’ squad are named from the Welsh Premier Development Leagues. We wish everyone from the Republic of Ireland a warm welcome to Maes Tegid and hope you have a safe journey.
In previous years Dan Dascalu and Ryan Jones were called up on two occasions meanwhile, Ryan Goldston, Cai Parry, Adam Hold and Aled Bayley also have been called up once, including the four appearing last year out in Ireland when the squads last met. Currently we have Dafydd Evans and Jake Hughes on the standby list for this week’s games.
It will be a proud evening for the Academy who will be heavily involved on the night. Flagbearers will be Gethin, Sion H, Osian, Will, Cai, Pat, Owen H, Jack W, Dion H, Sully and Jamie. Ball boys will be Gethin, Iestyn, Iwan, Will, Callum and Tyler from the U13’s and Jack, James, Dylan, Aaron, Ben and Iwan from the U12’s. We hope you all enjoy taking part!
We have a superb hamper which has been donated by Club President Joe Roberts up for raffle – make sure you give it a go!
Spirit of 58 need no introduction to Wales supporters. Tim Williams will be selling his Wales merchandise from the Club Shop so if you fancy a bucket hat, bobble hat or new t-shirt in time for the trip to Dublin next month, Tuesday is your perfect opportunity!
Make sure you are there to support the young Welshmen! C’mon Cymru! #TogetherStronger.
