Academy Director Dewi Llion looks ahead to the new Academy season

After a busy pre season, the Academy Cup and the U19´s league are finally underway. After such a successful 2014/15 season, with the U12´s reaching the National Final, losing out to Risca Utd, the U16´s losing the North Wales final to TNS, before travelling over to Amsterdam where they won the U17´s Amsterdam cup. The 19´s recorded their highest ever league position, finishing 4th in the league and were losing semi finalists in the Welsh Youth Cup to Premier League Swansea City FC.

This season there have been major changes to the coaching staff. We welcome Shon Hughes from Barmouth who will take charge of the U8s alongside Peter Young who will take charge of the U9´s. The ever presenent Barry Jones takes the U10´s with Corey Williams looking after the U11´s. Barry, Pete and Shon will all be participants on the UEFA C License this year, while Corey Williams is waiting to be assessed on his B License.

With the new technical and ball mastery plans put in place, I look forward to seeing the development of the players in these teams.

The U12´s will be managed by Owain Williams, who led last years U12´s team to the national final. No Pressure Ows. The U13´s and 14´s will combine to compete in the Academy Cup. Its going to be an extremely difficult season for this team playing against teams who are a year older than them. This experience will be extremely valuable for their own development as they will be pushed extremely hard to try and compete with the physicality of the older players. This will hold them in good stead for next seasons U14´s league. Luckily for the players, A License Youth Candidate Jack Ellis will be in charge of the team. Working alongside Jack is Tony Sheridan, who is an A License Senior Coach. Tony has experience working with Rhyl and Flint first team, and has recently been appointed as First Team scout for Tranmere Rovers.

The U15´s will once again be managed by B License Candidate Andy Kelly. The U16´s have drawn the short straw, and will have to put up with myself for the coming season, a challenge I very much look forward to taking on.

Chris Hardy who was last seasons U16´s manager will take a few months out of football to concentrate on his father duties as well as his new business. I’d like to congratulate and wish Cassie and Chris the best of luck with their baby, who is due early October!

There has also been a change in the U19´s management. With my girlfriend Glesni and myself due a baby mid October, I have decided to hand over the reins to Jack Ellis, Ricky Jones and Pete Lloyd. Ricky Jones joins us from Llandudno Town FC. Ricky was a candidate on the A Youth License with myself last year, and I hassled him for many months to come and join us at the Academy. Ricky has also been recently appointed P.E teacher at Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy, he also brings in vast playing experience from the Lock Sock League 1 were he plays for LLandudno Junction. Pete Lloyd also joins us from Llanrwst Utd, whom he will still assist every Saturday. Pete has experience at Llandyrnog Utd FC, and Denbigh Town FC. He was part of the coaching staff at The Rec, during Denbigh’s title winning season.
